VWGS Directors 2018-2019


Patricia Tait

Patricia Tait joined the Vancouver Westside German School Board in 2015 as part of the Event Management / Marketing Committee, and is now serving as the school's president. At the University of Leipzig, Patricia studied Linguistics, French and German as a Foreign Language and she also holds a BA in Tourism & Travel Management from a Hotel Management School in Leipzig, Germany. This led her to Vancouver and four years in the tourism and hospitality industry while she worked at Vancouver's top-rated hotels.
In 2008, Patricia transitioned into the Association Management industry. From her role as Account Manager and Executive Director for many years at a Vancouver based Association Management Company, she has gained a thorough understanding of the non-for-profit, convention and recreation cycle. Patricia is now self-employed offering Association Management Services to Non-for-Profit Associations. Her professional experience include the understanding of board structures, governance, event & conference planning, budgeting, marketing, strategic planning, and communications.

Vice President

Tracey Dye

Tracey Dye joined the Vancouver Westside German School Board in 2015 as Secretary, and is now serving as the Vice President.


Maria Hoffmann

This is Maria's first year on the board and she will be holding the position of Secretary. Maria has a background rooted in science and education. She holds an M.Sc. in Molecular Genetics from the University of Toronto, a B.Ed. in Secondary School Biological Sciences and General Sciences from the University of British Columbia, as well as a diploma in Special Education. Amidst all these educational pursuits she worked as a tutor for school-aged students, a swim coach for a Special Olympics regional team, aided an occupational therapist in printing programs for children with fine motor issues, and volunteered in Science World galleries. Maria has a passion for education and is looking forward to helping the board and staff create a wonderful educational experience for our wonderful students.


Zeynep Erdogan

Zeynep Erdogan joined the Vancouver Westside German School Board in 2018 as Treasurer, supported by Finance Committee: Anja Slusarzick-Seibt, Nina Lakhani as well as President Patricia Tait and Vice President Tracey Dye

Finance Committee

Nina Lakhani

Nina Lakhani joined the board in 2018 and in her first year she became a member of the financial committee. After growing up in Hamburg, Germany, Nina came to Vancouver in 2003 to study Business Administration at Capilano University. Later she received her Real Estate Trading License and Property Management License through the Sauder School of Business, and worked for many years as a successful property manager and real estate agent until she decided to start a family. Since then, Nina has been actively involved in her children's school life. She has sat on the board of her youngest child's preschool as the treasurer since 2016 and is the co-chair of the PAC at her oldest child's school.

Finance Committee

Anja Slusarzick-Seibt

Anja joined the Vancouver Westside German School Board in 2018 as part of the Finance Committee. At the Technical University of Berlin, she studied Architecture, and holds a Master degree in this field. Anja is a registered Architect AIBC and a member of the Architectural Institute of British Columbia. She serves as a Board Member at Large at L'Ecole Bilingue Kindercare Society as well.

Uwe Gesierich

Uwe Gesierich joined the Vancouver Westside German School Board in 2018 as Member at large. He holds a bachelor's degree in communication design from the University of Düsseldorf and has been a creative for the advertising industry before he started his career as a Life & Business Coach. As a facilitator in nature, he has helped teenagers find their place in the world and adults step into their authentic leadership. He moved from Munich to Vancouver in 2012 and is still working on making friends with the Pacific rain.

Conni Vogelfänger

Conni Vogelfänger has two kids (5 and 8 years) at VWGS. She studied German literature and Mass Media Communication at the Heinrich Heine University in Duesseldorf and worked for more than 10 years as a Media Manager and Strategist for one of the worldwide biggest Media Agencies. After relocating to Vancouver in 2009 and having 2 kids she now is a full time mom and does a lot of volunteer work for e.g. the library team of VWGS and is an active part of PAC of her kids' elementary school.

Oliver Wolf joined the Vancouver Westside German School Board in 2017 as Member at large.

School Management


Lidija Bakovic

Lidija Bakovic comes to the Vancouver Westside German School with an impressive mix of relevant academic, practical teaching and school administration experience, gained in both Canada and Germany. She holds a master's degree in German as Foreign Language from the University of Heidelberg, Germany, and a master's degree in German Literature from the University of Dalhousie, Nova Scotia, supplemented by further studies in related fields at the University of Munich, Germany, and the University Montreal, Quebec.

Exam Coordinator

Ute Steves

Ute Steves started teaching at the Vancouver Westside German School in 2013 after having spent 25 years teaching English and German at various private and public institutions in Germany and Canada. In spring 2015, she got her certification as exam chairperson for the German Language Diploma and has since been in charge of the exam coordination at the VWGS. She also advises the principal on curriculum development and class composition. Please contact Ute with any exam related questions.


Susanne Freitag

Susanne joined Vancouver Westside German School in the Summer of 2018. She holds a master's degree in Computer Science and Social Studies (MEd) and a Master of Arts in Sociology. Before moving to Vancouver, Susanne worked as a researcher and lecturer at the University of Münster, Germany. Her research spans the social and educational sciences and she remains affiliated with her research group in Germany. At VWGS she supports the principal, board members and staff in various functions.
